About the Opportunities

Integrated Family and Youth Services now has multiple opportunities available for Residential Youth Workers to join their Child Protection Residential Care Programs in Gladstone and Rockhampton. These are casual roles, with the potential to progress to permanent part-time, if desired.

Working a mix of day, afternoon, and overnight shifts, you will be supporting young people (from 5-17 years of age) who have been assessed as needing a placement different from family-based care. You'll be responsible for the safe running of the house, providing a nurturing environment where young people can heal, learn, grow and engage in the world with confidence.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include:

  • Planning and conducting individual and group activities to meet young people's needs and goals;
  • Supporting and managing young people's behaviours in line with Action Behaviour Support plans;
  • Using daily task routines to provide hands-on training of life skills such as but not limited to cooking, budgeting, personal care etc;
  • Advocating on behalf of individuals and families to ensure that services accessed and provided are relevant, flexible and accessible;
  • Completing administrative duties, petty cash, regular case notes, time sheets and incident reports; and
  • Working with young people to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the house.

About You

To be successful, you will need to either hold or be willing to commence a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline. Whilst experience with Residential Youth Care would be highly regarded, IFYS is open to candidates from industries with similar transferrable skills, including disability care, nursing, education, or early childhood.

You will have a good understanding of the role of community organisations within the youth and community sector, as well as the issues related to young people living in out of home care. You'll have excellent interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with young people whilst tailoring your approach to a wide range of ages, and effectively negotiate, mediate and resolve conflicts confidently and calmly.

You will be genuinely interested in making a positive difference in the lives of the children or young persons in your care, supporting them to heal from trauma and empowering them to develop independence, whilst maintaining a strong commitment to your own self-care.

Please note: You will need to have, or be willing to obtain, a Blue Card, Yellow Card, and LCS2 Police Check prior to commencing. You will also need a current, unrestricted driver's license.
