About Cairns Community Legal Centre

The Cairns Community Legal Centre is a non-profit, government-funded community organisation, committed to providing accessible legal and social justice services to people in the community experiencing disadvantage. 

The Centre extends its services across a range of areas of law including guardianship, administration, domestic violence, peace and good behaviour matters, consumer law, credit, debt, motor vehicle property damage, discrimination and human rights, family law, child protection, and criminal and traffic matters.

This work is provided for a diverse range of clients including people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those experiencing domestic or family violence, financial difficulties, and homelessness.

A Rewarding Opportunity

The Cairns Community Legal Centre now has an exciting opportunity for a Finance and Administration Manager to join their team on a full time basis (38 hours per week). 

Reporting to the Centre’s Director and responsible for managing the Centre’s finances, assets, and information technology, you will also be responsible for managing the Centre’s administration team and administration systems. 

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Preparing and maintaining budgets
  • Managing and maintaining financial records and reports and providing relevant analysis as required
  • Managing and processing payroll systems and records, including wages and entitlements for Centre employees
  • Co-ordinating annual audits and attending to Auditor’s requirements in relation to the Centre’s annual  Financial Audit Report
  • Managing and maintaining the Centre’s Asset Register (including acquisition and disposal of assets), together with maintaining records for contracts and warranties
  • Managing the Centre’s Information Technology Systems with the assistance of the Centre’s Administration Supervisor and external Consultants
  • Managing the training and supervision of administration staff
  • Assisting the Centre’s Director with the preparation of funding submissions; and
  • Supporting the development of office systems, and ensuring compliance with, policies, procedures, guidelines, service standards and practices as they relate to the Centre’s finance and administrative functions, and the Finance and Administration Manager’s area of work.

About You

The suitable candidate will hold relevant experience in finance and administration.  While candidates may hold a formal qualification in a related field, this is not essential with a practical working knowledge of finances and administration highly valued.  A knowledge and understanding of IT systems also an advantage.

Well developed interpersonal and communication skills will also be critical, together with your ability to work collaboratively with Centre staff, and the Senior Management Team as led by the Centre’s Director; as will the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work under pressure. Your prior experience in a supervision or management role will also enable you to effectively develop your team of staff so that the Centre’s office runs smoothly; and the needs of its clients, workers and other stakeholders are being met.

The ability to solve problems using knowledge acquired through previous experience is essential; together with the confidence to work under limited direction, where guidance is not always readily available. You will need strong organisational skills, and be proficient in a range of computer software, including MYOB and Microsoft Office. An ability to apply a practical hands on approach to matters where needed also important.
