MacDonald Island Park is owned by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and operated by the MacDonald Island Park Corporation, (MIPC). MIPC is a Part Nine Corporation and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and managed by a new team of recreational professionals. MacDonald Island Park Corporation was formed to manage and operate the complex on behalf of the Municipality.

The Suncor Community Leisure Centre is a state-of-the-art family oriented multifunctional recreation centre. The complex includes two NHL-sized arenas, one additional ice surface, eight curling sheets, two field houses, a leisure ice surface, a running track, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a children’s playground and a child minding area. The aquatics centre includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an additional four-lane pool, two water slides, an inner-tube river and Splash Park.

About the Opportunity
MacDonald Island Park Corporation currently has an exciting opportunity for a talented and multi-skilled Recreational Operations Manager in Fort McMurray.
The main purpose of this key leadership role is to be responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
Reporting to Director of Operations, your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Directing, managing, and supervising the Building Operations Team;
- Supervising the general operations, maintenance, and repair of the building;
- Maintaining components of its major systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security and fire alarms, exterior building envelope, and grounds;
- Responding and coordinating emergency repairs, maintaining project records, and inspecting work for compliance;
- Managing and reviewing multiple projects within a set budget and meeting targets;
- Assisting with the preparation of Capital Expenditure and Operational Budgets for the operations department;
- Managing and supervising trades consultants and contracts;
- Overseeing routine maintenance and repair, and minor operating projects in the facility;
- Developing project plans including the work to be completed, resources required, timing and associated costs for building, and renovations and upgrades;
- Working closely with property managers and liaising with tenants.
About You
To achieve in this diverse role, the successful candidate will have:
- Minimum of five to ten years experience in recreational operations and maintenance supervision.
- Graduated from a technical college with a certification in facilities management will be an asset.
It is essential to have a background working in recreational facilities that have sports fields, curling ice, arenas, or an aquatic centre.
Additionally, we are looking for someone who has the following experience and qualifications:
- HVAC especially with boilers and refrigeration
- Level I and II Pool and Arena I and II Operators Courses
- Journeyman Trades certification in power engineering or pipefitting
- First Aid/CPR and WHIMIS
- Ability to lead and manage staff
Because this is a multi-faceted, 'hands-on' role, the successful candidate will require well developed communication and interpersonal skills and be able to apply conflict resolution measures to complex problems.
You'll have the ability to work both autonomously and cooperatively within a team environment, with the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations. You will be able to set clear and deliverable goals while being able to identify, evaluate, and develop new ideas with supportable results. In addition, you must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite. MacDonald Island Park is looking for a motivated, hard-working individual with a drive for excellence and a passion for recreation.
The position is full time, hours are typically anywhere from 8am - 5pm. However due to the nature of this role, evenings and weekends may be required and you will provide some after hours 'on call' duties to support to the organization.
