About Sapotaweyak Cree Nation

Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, under the auspices of Swampy Cree Tribal Council provided the mandate for Cree Nation Tribal Health Center to begin delivering health support services in 1990.

Mission: Sapotaweyak Cree Nation Health Authority's aim is to provide holistic health care for present and future generations to come.  

Goals: The goal of the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation Health Authority is to provide the best possible health care for the people in the community by:

  • Improving the overall health of the elders of Sapotaweyak and by focusing on major health problems and issues, ensuring that health programs and related activities are responsive to individual, family and community needs;
  • Providing communication, education and awareness on health issues such as disease control, treatment services, prevention programs etc.;

About the Opportunity

As a growing health authority, Sapotaweyak Cree Nation has an opening for a diligent Community Health Nurse to join its team.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Health, you will provide Community Health programs and work cooperatively with other jurisdictions within First Nation communities.

Community Health Programs include:

  • Communicable Disease Surveillance
  • School Health Education
  • Chronic Disease Data Monitoring
  • Diabetes Clinics
  • Population Health

You will also be responsible for communicating with other departments, through writing reports and documenting client care.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in immunizations, pre and post-natal health, and health education and awareness.

You will have a Bachelor of Nursing or be a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of 2 years’ hospital experience, plus current College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Registration.

Knowledge of 2003 Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines is also important as is possession of the Canadian Immunization Certificate. 

Applicants with knowledge of First Nation customs, values and tradition as well as the ability to speak Cree will be held in high regard.

A valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License is essential.

In this position, you will work 9am-5pm on Monday to Thursday, and can enjoy working from home on Fridays (administration duties).

You are a seasoned professional when it comes to communicating with others as you have excellent written and verbal skills.
