About the Opportunity
Due to growth, DMC Mining Services requires an experienced individual for the role of Construction Manager (Mining Industry) in Sudbury, ON.
In this pivotal role, you will manage all construction activities to ensure a totally safe, integrated, coordinated, and controlled effort to satisfy and exceed client expectations. This will involve setting parameters in relation to time, cost, quality and project outcomes from the date of authorization through to commissioning and client hand-over.
Specifically, your day to day responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that all construction personnel and contractors are adequately trained in their job responsibilities and understand the project policies/work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Demonstrating a personal commitment to safety and implementing systems to promote safety awareness and create a "Zero Harm" culture;
- Ensuring construction is executed safely and in compliance with all regulatory requirements, project instructions, job hazard analysis, real time job analysis and safe working procedures;
- Supporting the efforts of peers and colleagues by sharing resources and technical skills;
- Providing a formal point of contact for all construction communications;
- Developing an appropriate organizational structure for execution of the construction phases and selecting personnel for specific positions;
- Reviewing the need for training, counseling and/or corrective action;
- Establishing specific policies/procedures relevant to construction execution;
- Communicating with senior management in accordance with the limits of authority;
- Monitor and measure and report the progress of work assignments against schedule, milestone deliverables and capital expenditure budgets.;
- Recommend and implement corrective strategies where needed to best meet overall construction objectives;
- Prepare/submit project progress reports prepared for the project director, client and/or for internal distribution.
Along with a relevant degree you have 5+ years of on-site mine experience and have worked with construction contractors. An extensive knowledge of health and safety protocols (Occupational Health and Safety Act) is essential, as is experience in the construction phase of mine building. Above all, you are an outstanding team leader who is equipped with strong organization and time management skills.
While 85% of your role will be situated in Sudbury, you must be willing to travel up to 15% of the time to Northern Ontario mining sites.
