About the Opportunity

MRW has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to join its team in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

In this active role, you will provide lead structural design and technical support to a team consisting of engineers, technologists and designers. You’ll perform calculations, design drawing reviews, and oversee field investigations. The project work for this role will involve engineering and design for various structural systems and types of structures, including equipment supports and foundations.

More specifically, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Designing industrial and commercial structures (structural steel, reinforced concrete and pre-cast concrete);
  • Designing of timber, steel and concrete bridges;
  • Structural inspections and report preparation;
  • Coordinating engineering work schedules and establishing solid working relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Preparing detailed engineering man-hour estimates and material take-offs;
  • Writing specifications, contract documents, and preparing engineering progress reports;
  • Resolving design and field engineering issues;
  • Reviewing project documents for technical accuracy and competency;
  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards;
  • Recommending substitutions in materials and payment for completed work; and
  • Keeping abreast of new technical developments and estimating their impacts.

Qualifications necessary for this application to this role, will include:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario;
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in other provinces or US states an asset;
  • 10-15 years Front End and Detailed Design experience in structural design; and
  • 10-15 years experience as lead engineer.

To apply, you will also need strong conceptual design skills with in-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design software (both static and dynamic).

You also have knowledge of Canadian and Ontario Building and Design Codes and ideally, you’re familiar with US Building and Design Codes.

If you have field experience, it will be considered an asset.
