About the Organization
Located at the beautiful northern tip of Vancouver Island, the Kwakiutl Indian Band is a small, ocean-side community located approximately 10 kilometers from Port Hardy. Governed by four Hereditary Chiefs in addition to the elected Kwakiutl Chief and Council, we represent the interests of the local Kwakiutl population.
As operators of the local Kwakiutl Health Centre, we work in direct consultation with the community to provide a culturally integrated and holistic approach to health and wellness. Under the administration of the Health Director, our dedicated and close-knit team comprises a Home and Community Care Nurse, Community Health Representative, Community Wellness Worker, Child and Youth Worker and Receptionist/Patient Travel Clerk.

About the Opportunity
The Kwakiutl Band Council is seeking an experienced Community Health Nurse to join our team on Vancouver Island.
Reporting to the Health Director, this role will focus on preventative health strategies to promote the health and well-being of individuals, families and the community by:
- Assessing development, health, wellness, financial/social status, and determining risk factors;
- Providing counselling, evaluation, health and wellness education and follow-up;
- Promoting communicable disease control in the general population;
- Developing partnerships to provide professional collaboration and consultation;
- Assisting in the development of policies and action plan in the community; and
- Acting as a health and wellness advocate.
To qualify for this pivotal, community-based role, you will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, as well as 2-3 years' experience in Community Health Nursing (preferably in an Aboriginal community).
Current registration (RN) as a member in good standing with the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia (RNABC) is essential, as is current CPR/AED Level C certification and current immunization certification. A certificate in foot care is preferred, however candidates willing to undergo training/certification will be considered.
Knowledge of the Kwakiutl community, culture and language is an asset.
As part of the dedicated health team, it is imperative that you strive to communicate and serve the Kwakiutl people in a manner that respects, enhances and promotes their cultural identity and state of well-being. As such, preference may be given to Aboriginal candidates.
A valid BC Driver's Licence is required, and access to a reliable vehicle is preferred. The successful candidate will also be required to pass a criminal records check.
