About the Opportunity
N’Mninoeyaa Community Support Services is seeking a Registered Physiotherapist to join its dynamic, self-motivated group of health care professionals. Working collaboratively with the certified Rehabilitation Assistant, you will provide assessment, consultation, education and direct treatment within the four partner community clinics. These communities include; the Thessalon First Nation (near town of Thessalon), Batchewana First Nation (within city limits of Sault Ste. Marie), Garden River First Nation (east of Sault Ste. Marie) and the Indian Friendship Centre (Sault Ste. Marie).
This is a unique work experience for a physiotherapist who is interested in becoming a key member of a team that addresses the health care issues of First Nation and aboriginal populations.
To qualify, you must have a Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy and be registered with the College of Physiotherapy of Ontario. Experience or interest in working in a community clinic and home care setting is essential. Demonstrated sensitivity to, and an understanding of the Aboriginal cultural values and Traditions will be essential to your success, as is knowledge and the ability to work with people with diverse practices, cultures and beliefs. You are proficient using computers including mobile phones and you have the capacity to participate in care planning to meet clients’ physical, psychosocial, cultural and emotional needs.
The following would be highly desirable:
- Community experience working with the elderly;
- Experience providing clinical supervision to students and rehabilitation assistants;
- ADP authorizer (or willing and able to obtain).
- Adaptable and flexible.
- Clear criminal reference check is a condition of employment.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
