About the Opportunity
B&D Manufacturing is actively hiring several experienced Class A Machinists to join their Field Services Department in Sudbury. Please note that successful candidates must be available to work any shift.
In this role, you will apply your knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques, to interpret blueprints and drawings in order to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
More specifically, in this role, you will perform the following duties:
- Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of finishes required, sequence of operation and set up requirements;
- Maintain service truck logs according to regulations;
- Perform regular maintenance and inspection of service truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, gas, oil, and water;
- Apply your knowledge of grinding tool bits to your daily activities;
- Select, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, for the efficient operation of the Align Boring and Bore Welding equipment;
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining and welding factors such as speeds and feeds, amperage and depth and angle of cut; and
- Train workers in the operation of equipment and instruct less experienced machinists in the safe and effective set up operation techniques.
In this role, you may be required to work in a variety of locations (in shop and on site).
The Machinist (Class A) will report to the Field Services Machining Manager and primarily will be responsible for setting up and operating a wide variety of multi-axis CNC and manual machines and other shop related equipment).
The following qualifications are required:
- At least 1 year of in-company or equivalent Machine Shop experience;
- Machinist certification or equivalent
The following qualifications would be an asset:
- Experience in align boring;
- Experience in an ISO quality environment;
- Current WHMIS training;and
- A valid driver's license.
This role will be well suited to skilled problem solvers who are adept at working alone, or within a team, as successful candidates will be required to review processes for potential problems, and identify opportunities for improvement. Effective communication skills and flexibility are essential. Naturally, you'll be safety orientated and you will immerse yourself in, and have a strong appreciation for the B&D Safety Program.
