About the Opportunities
Toolplas Systems Inc. is currently seeking an experienced EDM Operator to join their team in Windsor, ON.
Please note this is an hourly-rated position with a work week comprised of a minimum of 44 hours/week, performed on a two-shift, rotational basis (one month on day shifts and one month on night shifts).
In this role, you will be responsible for the set-up and operation of EDM machines to burn various sizes of metal work pieces during the course of the mold build or repair according to customer specifications and requirements.
On a day-to-day basis, your specific responsibilities will include:
- Determining best strategy to complete workpiece including setups, tooling and downstream department use;
- Programming EDMs using Cimatron software for required operations;
- Sending program to EDM machines;
- Operating EDM machines using controls to adjust on/off times in order to achieve maximum operating efficiencies and quality of workmanship;
- Planning the order of operations of EDM to maximize up time including running through breaks and lunch periods (completing Operator-dependent operations during the day shift and leaving longer-running operations for the afternoon shift, where possible);
- Checking and verifying EDM operation at each step of the process using various measuring instruments such as scales, micrometers, telescoping gauges, calipers, fixed gauges and dial indicators;
- Maintaining cleanliness of machine and machine area;
- operating overhead crane system using chains, eyebolts, slings, etc. as necessary to move work pieces or other materials when, where and as required in the safest manner possible;
- Performing regular maintenance of assigned machine and completing weekly maintenance checks; and
- Complying with all company rules, policies, procedures and programs.
As our ideal candidate you will need to have a Grade 12 diploma or the equivalent, successful completion of a Machining or Mold Making course through a recognized college or other learning institute and preferably a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in programming, setting up and operating EDM machines.
In order to be successful in this role you must have strong mathematical and analytical skills, the ability to read and interpret CAD data and a familiarity with Makino, Heidenhain, Zap and ONA controls. Additionally, you have a proven track record of good attendance, the physical ability to handle all tools and equipment as necessary and operate an overhead crane safely.
