About the Organization
The Government of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation (VGFN) governs the vibrant people of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, which is proud to exercise its inherent right to self government.
The organization manages the general welfare of the Vuntut Gwitchin citizens, and ensures that activities and procedures in the local area support the best interests of the community, the land, and its resources. More specifically, the VGFN oversees the region’s natural resources, government services, health and social issues, and educational resources.
About Old Crow
The community of Old Crow is located in North Yukon, Canada, and is home to the 300 members of the close-knit community of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nations people.
Serviced by an airport which has weekly flights to Dawson City and Whitehorse, the town is solely accessible by air, which surely contributes to preserving the natural splendor of the community.

About the Opportunity
Currently, the Government of Vuntut Gwitchin First Nations, has an exciting full-time opening for a Director of Natural and Heritage Resources in Old Crow, Yukon Territory.
In this key role, you will be responsible for directing the business of the Natural & Heritage Resources Department in lands, environment, heritage, and fish and wildlife. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will supervise the Heritage Manager, Lands Manager, Fish & Wildlife Manager and Administrative Assistant. This position also serves as a member of the Senior Management Team in the Vuntut Gwitchin Government.
In order to apply, you will need a degree or diploma in one or more of the following:
- Natural or renewable resource management
- Land management
- Environmental studies
In addition to your education, you MUST have extensive relevant work experience at a senior management level. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the principles, practices, issues and legislation associated with natural resources management.
In this managerial role, you will need excellent project management skills, and in-depth knowledge of developing policies and procedures, applying financial management, negotiating, supervising and problem solving.
Understandably, superior oral and written communication skills are required.
