About the Opportunity
Brazeau County has an exciting opportunity for a Long Range Planning Officer to join our team in Drayton Valley, Alberta.
This is a one-year contract role that will see the successful incumbent take a lead role on statutory planning document review and support a wide variety of planning functions.
Specifically, you will be responsible for statutory planning policy and land use bylaw administration, you will review the Municipal Development Plan, Inter-Municipal Development Plan, Hamlet-Area Structure Plans, Neighbourhood Plans and land-use redistricting. You will also undertake relevant research, facilitate presentations to Council, prepare reports and make recommendation to Council and Senior Management.
To qualify for this role, the successful candidate must have:
- Master's Degree or a post-secondary education in a land use planning, geography, or municipal government field;
- Membership (or eligibility for membership) to the Canadian Institute of Planners preferred;
- Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract; and
- Proficiency with GIS Systems and Microsoft Office programs is an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Critical to your success in this role will be your previous experience working in a rural municipal planning environment with Council, Committees and politically sensitive issues. The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the County's Land Use Bylaw, Statutory Plans, the Municipal Government Act and other provincial legislation.
As a strong communicator, both written and verbal, you will also be able to manage multiple projects in a team-based and deadline-oriented environment. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who displays a friendly and approachable attitude and who is able and willing to mediate and proactively solve problems as they arise.

In exchange for your hard work and dedication, the successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive salary of $67,460 - $89,948.
