ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Northwest Inter-Nation Family & Community Services Society (NIFCS) is a non-profit Society composed of seven Member Indian Bands located in the Northwest, North Coast and Northern Region of British Columbia.

With an overall mission to provide community based and community driven child and family care services that protect and preserve the unique cultural identity of every child and family in the bands we serveNIFCS has become instrumental in providing support to the First Nations community, aiding in the preservation of their unique identity.

 

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Currently, NIFCS is searching for two Protection Workers / Social Workers with experience in child protection. 

Reporting to the Supervisory Team Leader, you will perform NIFCS delegated C6 services. Your primary role will be assessing and providing support services for the Bands served by NIFCS, and assisting in any additional prevention and intervention services that may be added to the mandate of the NIFCS Agency.

Specifically, your tasks will be centered in resource, voluntary, and guardianship support services, and will include:

  • Providing intervention and prevention services and referrals to community resources 
  • Taking protective action as required, including recruiting foster parents or supervising the placement of children into protective care
  • Conducting intake responsibilities and investigations 
  • Developing safety plans
  • Working with families on reunification plans and assessing, opening, monitoring and providing funding to placements.
  • Recruiting, assessing and supporting a range of resources in which to place children in care
  • Assisting in the selection, approval, monitoring and provision of support and training for caregivers
  • Evaluating client progress and providing support to children and families using a strengths-based approach
  • Advocating for and supporting families when accompanying MCFD social workers
  • Developing and supervising the comprehensive plan of care for each child in NIFCS care
  • Determining potential or presenting challenges in any current placement and assisting the caregiver in developing strategies for managing problematic behaviours
  • Working collaboratively with family, extended family and professionals to obtain the most suitable permanent home for each child within his/her culture
  • Attending court hearings, case conferences, and joint interviews. 

To be successful in this role you will possess a Bachelor of Social Work. You must have the ability to develop strong relationships with children, parents, foster parents and caregivers. You will also need a minimum of 2 years’ child protection experience with the ability to mentor other workers who do not possess C6 experience. 

Excellent communication and computer skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain professionalism under pressure. You will need to have a valid BC Driver’s license and the capacity to travel to our satellite offices.

Candidates must also pass an RCMP Criminal Records Check, and preference will be given to those with their Guardianship Delegation.
