About the Opportunity

Forsite Consulting Ltd. is currently seeking a Senior Forest Analyst to join our team and be based preferably in Salmon Arm, BC. Exceptions may be made for the right candidate as we can also offer this role in BC, AB and ONT. 

Working within Forsite’s Resource Management and Technology business area you will lead and work with project teams to provide forestry business knowledge and technical analysis that offers cost-effective, innovative, and meaningful solutions. You will have exceptional problem solving, written and oral communications skills with an ability to translate complex analysis results into practical knowledge that supports informed decision making.

Potential project types include forest management planning, timber supply analysis, cumulative effects analysis, landbase reporting for timber and non-timber resource values, carbon reporting/management strategies, economic viability and operability, inventory projections, growth and yield analysis, strategic silviculture investment analyses, etc.

This is a challenging and dynamic role that will see you: 

  • Working directly with clients to help them to create solutions to their current issues
  • Working with GIS data and landscape level forest models like Patchworks
  • Working with forest inventories, plot data, and G&Y models like TIPSY, VDYP, MGM, GYPSY, etc to develop predictions of forest growth and future attributes.
  • Using harvest economics and other value datasets to generate optimized harvest sequences
  • Using available data to help clients develop a better understanding of landscape scale issues
  • Writing reports that document project work and provide clients with clear outcomes and recommendations
  • Other related duties as may be assigned

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a post-secondary education with a natural resource management focus, a professional forester accreditation and a minimum of 3 - 5 years of related experience. To be successful in this role, you will also have demonstrable experience with GIS, growth and yield tools, and forest estate models. 

The ideal candidate will have a background in operational forestry and strategic planning in Canada.  You must have excellent data manipulation skills using databases, geodatabases, and scripting languages (SQL, Python, etc).

You will have exceptional problem solving, written and oral communications skills with an ability to translate complex analysis results into practical knowledge that supports informed decision making.

Finally, you will have a demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and manage a workload which often includes multiple competing demands.  You will also be a motivated self-starter that is able to engage, supervise, lead and mentor teams to achieve outstanding results.
