About the Opportunity

Kerkhoff Engineering Ltd. is looking to fill an immediate position of a Senior or Junior Engineer working out of our Chilliwack office. There is potential after a training period to relocate to Alberta. 

Reporting to the Senior Structural Engineer and operating at different levels of seniority the main objective of each of these roles is to provide structural design solutions for a number of varied projects.  

Structural Engineer

As our Structural Engineer, you must be able to communicate with clients and work collaboratively with our fast-paced team. This position will include structural design, field reviews, and coordination of various aspects of projects with the design team. 

In order to qualify for this role, you will be a Registered Professional Engineer with a P. Eng Designation and also have previous relevant design experience. Knowledge of drafting tools (Revit and CAD), design tools (Structural Analysis software, Woodworks, Microsoft Excel), and part 4 of the BC building code is also required. You must also have a clear understanding of building load paths for both gravity and lateral load systems. Previous construction experience is not required but is certainly an asset. 

Candidates with the following will be at an advantage:

  • An understanding of Tilt Up/Precast concrete design including prestressed design. 
  • Experience with heavy timber frame construction (Glulam/CLT/DLT).
  • Struct. Eng Designation or desire to work towards this.
  • Experience in dairy and poultry as some of our work is agricultural (asset). 

Junior Engineer

As our Junior Engineer, you will work directly with the Senior Project Engineer on structural designs, drafting, and periodic field reviews. 

In order to qualify for this role, you will have successfully completed the four year BSc program at UBC or BCIT and have a clear passion for structural engineering. Knowledge of drafting tools, design tools, and part 4 of the BC building code is also required. Previous construction experience is not required but is certainly an asset. 

For both roles, our ideal candidate will be a hard-working team player who has strong organizational, attention to detail, and communication skills, along with excellent time management abilities.

Please note that both roles will entail periodic site visits and as such a valid BC Drivers License and access to a vehicle is required.
