About the Opportunity

Lakeland Credit Union currently has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and personable Business Lender to join our team based in Cold Lake, Alberta. 

Reporting to the VP Credit, you will manage a designated portfolio of business members with a portfolio size of $40 million and higher. This role will also see you promote, sell, and negotiate business-banking services to current and potential members while proactively developing long-term, profitable relationships with members, service partners, and local markets to optimize business opportunities and referrals.

More specifically your responsibilities will include:

  • Interviewing current and potential members in order to gather information, determine business needs, and conduct an analysis of creditworthiness.
  • Proactively assessing and anticipating member's needs in order to identify solutions to meet those needs and the member's broader business objectives. 
  • Providing proactive individualized financial advice and achieving set portfolio targets. 
  • Working with Relationship Advisors to manage portfolios with a value of $25 million and less with a strong emphasis on business development and member retention by conducting daily decisions, annual reviews, and risk mitigations. 
  • Working with Credit Analysts to structure and document credit and cash management arrangements with current and prospective members.
  • Following up on delinquent accounts and maintaining a systematic collection procedure for early identification of problem accounts allowing you to initiate or recommend appropriate action in order to minimize risk.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all Lakeland Credit Union business lending products and services, policies, procedures and documentation by regularly reviewing applicable literature. 
  • Promoting a spirit of teamwork and the Lakeland Credit Unions values of collaboration, proactivity, accountability, excellence, and community between internal members. 

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a post-secondary education preferably in a Business related discipline along with at least four years of business lending experience working with a moderately complex portfolio. While a Bachelor's degree is preferred, individuals with a differing mix of education and relevant experience will also be considered. Individuals that have completed a CUIC Accredited Business Lender Program will be at an advantage however it is not required as those without the accreditation will have the opportunity to complete it as part of our onboarding process.
